Meirwen on Barcelona seafront
|
Meirwen developed her love of plants from an early age with a patch in
her parents' garden. Her professional gardening life began in the parks
of London, tending borders and maintaining putting greens.
Her next project was to renovate and manage on Soil
Association-certified lines a large historic Victorian walled garden
near Leeds, in which she cultivated edible flowers and herbs for supply
to local restaurants and herbalists. She taught the basics of gardening
to schoolchildren in the garden, and began the study of two of her favourite
themes: the art of composting, and organic gardening.
She then progressed to running her own maintenance
and landscaping company in Ilkley while studying horticulture for
the Royal Horticultural
Society certificate and garden design at the Harlow
Carr Botanical Gardens. She has been working as a designer since 1997.
Meirwen gains much inspiration from nature and natural landscapes. She
has explored the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean region and has been as
far as Yunnan, China, where many of our garden plants originate.
Having built up a strong base in gardens in Yorkshire's tough northern
climes, Meirwen has expanded her field of work to include the western
Mediterranean zone and is now based in Barcelona. Having a broad base
of design experience, she now specialises in creating ecologically beneficial,
natural gardens, and can advise on organic methods and ecosystems.
